Do you love being outside in the fresh June air but just aren’t feeling like exploring one of your usual trails? Or perhaps you’ve arrived a little early for Yoga or Tai Chi at the Community Centre and have a little spare time on your hands? Maybe you’re just wanting to be active and help Mayne Island be recognized Canada’s most active community?

Great! Let’s chat.

The Mayne Island Community Centre has partnered with Mayne Island Assisted Living Society (MIALS) and Mayne Island Early Childhood Society (MIECS) and hidden 12 geocaches around the Community Centre grounds. Think of it like an outdoor treasure hunt!

1. We give you a map and some hints (see below) to help you find the geocaches.
2. Your task is to visit the 12 locations on the map and find the hidden geocache. Our geocaches are small containers with a pencil and paper.
3. Record your name on the paper in the geocache to prove you found it. Put the paper and pencil back inside and put the geocache back as you found it for the next person.
4. Go home and record your activity for towards ParticipACTIONs Community Challenge (or email mayneislandcommunitycentre@gmail.com and we can do it for you)

A few notes to help you along:

• The geocaches are hidden and/or made to look like the environment around them. You generally won’t see them unless you really look!
• You may need to look underneath or behind objects to find the cache. Nothing will require the use of force.
• Working with a partner is much more fun. You’ll have better ideas if you work together!

Are these geocaches available in the official Geocache registry? No, to find them you’ll have to follow the map above.

Do I have to find them all at once or I can I find a few and come back later? You do not need to find them all at once. Take your time and enjoy! Bring a friend and watch them struggle to find things you’ve already found.
