Mayne Island Assisted Living (MIALS) New Horizons Program

Every Wednesday from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

MIALS received a grant to offer weekly programs available to anyone in our community. Programs include organized activities, educational series, therapeutic arts and music, support groups, community integration and a place for people to come together.

Mayne Island Assisted Living Support Groups

Held on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month from 1:30 PM -3:30 PM

These groups are to support families, couples and individuals on the journey of Alzheimers & Dementia. They will include facilitated support group dialogue as well as therapeutic activities such as music and movement.

Lunch Bunch

Join Sue Duncan and the great Mayne Island Lunch Bunch the first and third Thursday of each month at 12 noon for a lovely lunch with interesting topics and guest speakers.  All ages welcome.

Tai Chi/QiGong

Tai Chi is offered from January through April, and September to December on Monday mornings.

This class is slow, measured movement done to music. Yang-style Tai Chi is a gentle upright form which promotes balance and flow.

Yoga with Carol

A variety of Hatha poses will be taught, from beginner to intermediate level. Pre-registration is required as classes will be restricted by size.

Yoga with Donna

Yoga Intermediate

Drawing from the full spectrum of Classical Eight Limb Yoga, infused with mindfulness, and working with the guidance of the breath, this class offers stability for body and mind, cultivating inner awareness, harmony and balance. Suitable for those with previous yoga experience.
Tuesdays 5:00 – 6:30 pm

Yoga Gentle

This early morning practice is infused with mindful movement, steady postures and gentle breath works, to establish oneself in ease of both body and mind. Suitable for those new to yoga, or for experienced practitioners seeking a slower pace. Pre-registration required. Contact Donna for drop-in options.

Mindful Somatic Movement

Runs throughout the year, generally on Friday mornings.

Sensory motor amnesia  (SMA) is a term to describe chronically tight muscles that have learned to stay tight due to habitual holding patterns and long term stress in the body. Engaging in this gentle movement we reset the neuromuscular system, releasing tension and stress, establishing new patterns of ease and comfort, greater range of motion, strength and flexibility.

Vivero Yoga

Vivero Yoga offers workshop based yoga classes from Vinyasa to Restorative at The 44, and seasonally at the Community Centre. Vivero Yoga is taught by Amy, who is a 300 RYT with the Yoga Alliance. She provides classes that support positive mental health and mind-body awareness with a blend of breathwork, asana, meditation and joy.

Watercolour Painters

This class runs Monday afternoons from 2 pm – 4 pm January to May and October to December. The group paints en plein air other times.
